Welcome to our
4th grade school year! You can't imagine how excited we are about teaching your
children! We are going to learn so much together. Our goal is to educate and
nurture your son or daughter. In order to reach this goal, it is essential for
all of us to work together to ensure that your child reaches his/her full
potential and continues to stay challenged throughout this school year. Please
be involved in your child's studies this year. 4th grade will be a challenging
year requiring much more independence and rigor from your child. Please do not
hesitate to contact us at any time!
Our planning time is from 9:30 to 10:00. Please call to arrange a conference if you would like to meet with us.

Students should come to school prepared with their paper, pencils, and books every day. Folders will be sent home every Friday unless you receive a note notifying you of a change. Folders will contain graded work, a weekly conduct grade, notifications of school or community activities, and sometimes communications from your child' s teacher. Please review the information in the folder, sign it, and return it to school with your child on Monday. If you don't receive a folder, please call your child's teacher.
Students will sometimes receive grades for clicker activities, group activities, and other non - written work completed at school. For this reason, your child will not have a paper for each grade recorded on their progress report.
Houston Elementary will be on a nine week grading system instead of a six weeks grading period; therefore, your child will receive report cards every nine weeks.
The conduct week in 4th grade begins on Friday and ends on the following Thursday. Students begin each Friday with 100 conduct points and will receive deductions of 5 points for class or school violations. On Thursday afternoon, a student's conduct grade for the week is determined by subtracting the total deductions from 100 points.
As noted in the handbook, a student will be transported home in the same way every day unless the parent/guardian sends a written note to the child's teacher. Changes in transportation cannot be made over the telephone.
